Cyclodextrin, Sorbitol, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate

What It Does

Meet our cold process, 100% naturally derived emulsifer, Natural Emulsifier 146. This O/W (oil-in-water) emulsifier can create a range of textures from sprays to lotions, and can emulsify many vegetable oils, even in formulas with up to 60% oil.

How It's Made

Cyclodextrin and Sorbitol are produced through enzymatic breakdown of large sugar-based molecules. Polyglyceryl-3 is produced by joining multiple glycerin molecules together, where it is then joined to isostearic acid through chemical synthesis. The chemical reactions are considered natural.

Why It's Special

This natural emulsifier is so versatile - from sprayable serums to co-emulsifying lotions - we love how much oil it can hold!

Quality. Transparency. Trust.
Enzymatic Breakdown
Enzymatic Breakdown

Starches from potatoes, maize and wheat are broken down to produce cyclodextrin and sorbitol.

Synthesis
Synthesis

Multiple glycerin molecules join together to form polyglyceryl-3, then isostearic acid is added.

Ensure all equipment is clean and sterilized.

Add Distilled or Deionized Water to the main mixing vessel. In a small mixing bowl, add Organic Glyercin and Xanthan Gum together in a slurry. Mix by hand with a spoon until it looks homogenous. Pour the slurry into the main mixing vessel and use an immersion blender to fully disperse the mixture.

Once homogenous, place main mixing vessel into water bath and turn on heat. Begin heating the mixture to 105ºF - do not exceed 110ºF.

Sprinkle Natural Emulsifier 146 into the main vessel and use an immersion blender to disperse the emulsifier, until no white particles remain. It may take up to ten minutes and the side of the mixing glass may need to be scraped to get any emulsifier off the sides.

Turn off the heat. Once the emulsifier is fully dissolved, begin cooling and add ingredients 5-8, one by one, mixing with each addition.

Pour into containers and enjoy!
