Purple Earth’s natural color, low pH and magnesium content make it an excellent choice in skincare.
Kaolin
Naturally colored, straight from the earth! Our Brazil Clays are kaolin clays that are naturally pigmented due to mineral elements present in the earth—no artificial colorants or dyes are used. Each Brazil Clays color has its own unique mineral profile, giving each one different skin or hair benefits.
Purple Earth is a kaolin rich in magnesium, which helps promote cell maintenance, providing a more youthful appearance of skin. It has a deep purple, earthy tone. It additionally helps thicken emulsions, helps products glide more smoothly on skin, and adds natural color.
Kaolin is superior to bentonite, illite or montomorillonite clays because it’s more gentle on skin. Other clays have a pH between 7-10, depending on the source of the clay. Ouch! Brazil Clays have a pH of 4-5, which is closer to skin’s natural pH. This makes kaolin more gentle on skin.
Kaolin clay also absorbs less water from skin than other clays, leaving skin feeling less dry and stripped.
Brazil Clays are sustainably mined from the earth in southern Brazil. Its unique characteristics are preserved during extraction through a selective process where the region’s biodiversity is respected and maintained.

One of our favorite weekly rituals is to exfoliate the skin on our bodies. If you don't like the oily or greasy residue that sugar-based cleansers leave on skin, an exfoliating body bar might just be for you. Infused with naturally-colored kaolin clay, Brazil Clays Purple Earth provides a rich magnesium source to skin without drying it out, while Strawberry Exfoliant exfoliates dead skin with its smooth edges.
