The production of our organic, palm-free glycerin doesn't divert lands that should be used for food crops or come from oils that can be used as food such as soy, peanut or palm. World hunger is still a threat today and we are committed to sourcing glycerin from non-food origin.
Glycerin
Glycerin is one of the oldest, most functional humectants of all time and is one of the most versatile compounds a creator can use. It is clinically proven to increase the amount of moisture in the skin, as well as help improve the stability of formulations when exposed to cold temperatures. We love our organic, palm-free glycerin in moisturizers, facial toners and hand washes.
Our glycerin is palm-free and derived from a non-food source, the Karanja tree, which is native to semi-arid regions of India. The fruit of the Karanja tree is collected and crushed to obtain Karanja oil. The oil is reacted with water under heat and pressure to produce water that is enriched with glycerin. This mixture only has up to 15% glycerin and undergoes evaporation until a 90% concentrated solution of glycerin remains. The glycerin is now ready to undergo two final purification steps. It is first distilled via steam distillation to remove any impurities, before being purified with activated charcoal to remove any color. The result is 99.5% pure glycerin.

While heating, premix Organic Glycerin and Xanthan Gum, gently stirring until homogenous. Add to main vessel. Use an immersion blender to disperse the premix.
At 175ºF, add Creamy Coconut Surfactant (#4). Use caution by wearing a respirator mask, as this product can create dust and the dust should not be breathed in. Continue to hold the temperature and gently stir to avoid aeration, until dissolved. Dissolving #4 may take minutes of slow stirring! Once #4 is dissolved, turn off heat and add Cetearyl Alcohol MB (#5). Gently stir until dissolved.
