Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter

What It Does

Ante up the moisturization in your formulas with Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Butter. Cocoa butter relieves skin dryness and helps improve skin elasticity. Our cocoa butter is filtered and deodorized to remove impurities and reduce the strong, natural chocolate aroma, making it perfect for products you would like to add fragrance. Cocoa butter is known for its high oxidative stability due to antioxidants and vitamin E, so enjoy a long shelf life!

Oh, did we mention our Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Butter comes in easy-to-use wafers?

How It's Made

Fruits are collected from organically grown trees. The seeds are removed and then roasted. The roasted seeds are expeller pressed and mechanically filtered to reduce the strong chocolate odor and dark color so the cocoa butter can be used in cosmetic products.

Makes 200 grams. Number of bars varies depending on the mold used.

INGREDIENT FORMULA  WEIGHT
1 Sunflower Oil (Spectrum) 35.0%  70.0 g
2 Sustainable African Beeswax 30.0%  60.0 g
3 Fair Trade Cocoa Butter 15.0%  30.0 g
4 Organic Shea Butter 17.0%  34.0 g
5 Tapioca Starch (Bob's Red Mill) 3.0%  6.0 g
TOTAL 100%  200.0 g

Prepare a double boiler with water in the bottom pan and add ingredients 1-5 to the top pan. Begin heating the mixture to 175ºF with light stirring, trying to break up the clumps of Tapioca Starch. You may need to use a whisk. Keep the temperature at 175ºF for 10 minutes while stirring diligently. Everything should be melted.

Turn off the heat and continue to stir for 5 minutes. Pour mixture directly into the silicone mold. Allow the shapes in the mold to solidify slightly before transferring to the refrigerator to completely cool.

Once cool, pop the shapes out and store at room temperature. To use, warm the lotion bar up in the hands or rub on the skin and massage.
