Kaolin

What It Does

Naturally colored, straight from the earth! Our Brazil Clays are kaolin clays that are naturally pigmented due to mineral elements present in the earth—no artificial colorants or dyes are used. Each Brazil Clays color has its own unique mineral profile, giving each one different skin or hair benefits.

Brazil Clays Red Earth is a dark red clay rich in copper and iron oxides, important minerals for skin health. Skin lacking these minerals can be dry and thin with reduced elasticity. Brazil Clays Red Earth is clinically proven to:
- reduce oiliness
- improve skin elasticity
- increase skin firmness

Why Choose Kaolin

Kaolin is superior to bentonite, illite or montomorillonite clays because it’s more gentle on skin. Other clays have a pH between 7-10, depending on the source of the clay. Ouch! Brazil Clays have a pH of 4-5, which is closer to skin’s natural pH. This makes kaolin more gentle on skin.

Kaolin clay also absorbs less water from skin than other clays, leaving skin feeling less dry and stripped.

How It's Made

Brazil Clays are sustainably mined from the earth in southern Brazil. Its unique characteristics are preserved during extraction through a selective process where the region’s biodiversity is respected and maintained.

Assemble double boiler and place item 1 in the top pot. Begin heating to 175ºF/80ºC. While heating, add ingredients 2-3 in the small container and mix together into a slurry. When homogenous, add slurry to main vessel and use an immersion blender to disperse. When homogenous and mixture is at temperature, add Brazil Clays Red Earth and mix until homogenous, using immersion blender.

In a microwave safe bowl, add ingredients 5-9 and gently heat in 1 minute increments, until everything is dissolved and mixture is 175ºF/80ºC. Do not heat for several minutes at a time or leave mixture unattended in microwave.

When at temperature, pour mixture into double boiler and mix using the immersion blender for a few moments, until smooth. Remove from heat and begin cooling.

Below 110ºF/45ºC, at the remaining ingredients, gently mixing with a spoon in between each addition. Pour into desired containers.
