Xanthan Gum

What It Does

Xanthan Gum is a thickening agent in cosmetics used to create luxurious feeling products with a soft finish on skin. It can also be used as a stabilizer, in order to prevent separation of lotions, creams, and emulsified products.

Our Xanthan Gum SFT has been declared the best xanthan gum on the market by cosmetic formulators, and now it’s yours to try and see the difference! Our xanthan gum is preferred because it is:
• vegan
• easy to disperse - just sift it in!
• creates clear, transparent gels
• is not stringy
• is salt tolerant
• stabilizes emulsions 8x better than standard xanthan gum.

How It’s Made

The bacteria strain Xanthomonas campestris is fermented using glucose or sucrose from plan materials. This bacteria eats the sugar and secretes xanthan gum, which is then removed from the reactor, hydrolyzed to make it clear, and then dried for use as a powder.

Is Xanthan Gum Vegan?

Did you know not all xanthan gum is vegan? In order to make clear xanthan gum gels, an enzyme called lysozyme (derived from chicken eggs) cuts up the fermented xanthan gum.

However, our xanthan gum uses plant enzymes to make a clear gel, meaning no animal by-products are used in the fermentation or the preparation of our xanthan gum.
